Monthly News – The February Roundup

1st March 2023

THIS MONTH’S BIGGEST WINS!

During a challenging month for the industry, it’s important to remember there’s been plenty worth celebrating!

The UKVIA have been hard at work doing damage control against the wave of difficult press the industry has been facing, announcing they are supporting more controls to stop the industry being damaged by irresponsible companies and retailers.

There’s been calls to change World Cancer Day to support vaping as a solid smoking cessation product due to its significantly lower cancer risk!

There’s new coil tech! VOOPOO, one of the main industry leaders, has developed a new nano-tech ceramic coil.

RUMBLINGS IN THE INDUSTRY

The obvious big news from this month involved a popular household name in the industry selling overfilled devices in the UK. It came to light that the devices had juice tanks that were designed for a different market without a 2ml limit. Whilst this oversight doesn’t pose any health risks, it has not landed well with the British press who have run with multiple stories featuring misleading information. The UKVIA put out this statement.

While some publications have reported the level of nicotine was 50% over the legal limit, it’s important to separate facts from fiction. The tanks did contain more liquid, but at the same UK standard strength of 2%. There was too much liquid, but it wasn’t any stronger than it should have been. It is still vitally important that manufacturers stick to the rules put it place by the MHRA so that the consumer market isn’t damaged or further limited.

We’ve also seen a call to ban disposable vapes within parliament. This will be discussed further on Friday 24th March. We will be following this development with great interest.

CALLS TO ACTION

We’ve been working hard to research the best ways to keep the industry above board, well informed and transparent. This has involved looking further into the best methods for recycling disposable devices. We know the UK hasn’t currently got a centralised recycling system for disposable devices, but through research and communication with people in the industry this is something we can see great future potential with.
